Covid-19 and the final week of swim
Dear Swim Families,
What an unprecedented a time we live in! I am sure many of you received the same emergency alert that I did this weekend. Covid-19 is on the rise in Bexar County. I am in a unique position as I strive to provide a safe swim clinic for our kids. From what I can tell, the emergency alert is not the same as an official “stay at home order.” I have been in contact with the Stone Mountain HOA, and they have no current plan to close the neighborhood pool.
Provided the pool remains open, we will continue to hold our swim clinic for this final week. We want to make the environment as safe as possible, but please remember that your children swim at their own risk. If you feel uncomfortable sending your children to swim for any reason, use your judgment- attendance is not mandatory.
There remains no evidence that Covid-19 can spread in pools. However, the virus spreads with close, personal contact with someone who has contracted Covid-19. Pre-symptomatic spread is possible (spreading the virus after infection but before symptoms develop). Accordingly, please wear a mask in public. You risk not only your own health by exposure, but the health of other swim families.
REMINDER: If your child is sick (fever, cough, fatigue, etc) or has been exposed to anyone you know or suspect to be positive for Covid-19, please STAY HOME.
Additionally, effective immediately, we will take the following precautions:
1. If you will be waiting for your child inside the pool gates, either wear a mask or maintain 6ft of distance from those not in your household.
2. Where possible, please limit attendance at swim practice to one parent/guardian per child. If you wish to drop off your child and socialize for a few minutes with another parent (as opposed to staying for the whole practice), please do so outside the pool gates. Younger siblings who come with a parent/guardian will continue to be permitted.
3. I have asked coaches to have one child per lane where possible. When that is not possible, we are working on a solution (opposite ends of the pool to start, a line to start, children from the same family sharing a lane, etc).
We will continue to keep up on local regulations and executive orders as we strive to provide a safe environment for your children to participate
